A portion of the proceeds support the Women of the Vine & Spirits Foundation   

At Teneral Cellars, we are passionate about pursuing a more equitable society for all women. The best way our company can do this is by using wine as a conduit for change. For our first release of 2022, we’ve focused on furthering equity within the wine industry. Only ten percent of winemakers are women, and a scant 0.1% of all winemakers are Black. In the wine industry at large, female sommeliers make only 70 cents for every dollar that their male counterparts earn. These shocking disparities have motivated us to commit a minimum of $10,000 to the Women of the Vine & Spirits Foundation to fund scholarships for 22 women seeking opportunities and education in our industry. To meet our goal—and hopefully surpass it—ten percent of profits from sales of our new collection, Disrupt Now, will be donated to the foundation.

 

Disrupt the Timeline

The United States can’t continue with its current trends. If progress toward closing the national gender gap moves forward at its current pace, it will take 208 years for women to experience gender equality in the U.S. That’s far too many years.       

This statistic from the World Economic Forum may seem daunting, but why should we let the past dictate the future? We must fight harder to uphold equity, a principle that recognizes that many people, such as women of color, have unequal access to systems of power. How are such inequities possible when women are the majority in this country? Taking disruptive action now is the only way to create a world where women receive the resources and opportunities needed to reach an equal outcome to men.  

 

Women of the Vine & Spirits 

We’ve partnered with the Women of the Vine & Spirits Foundation to help disrupt gender inequality by funding scholarship opportunities that advance the careers of women—especially women of color, who are significantly under-represented in the winemaking industry. Ten percent of every sale from the Disrupt Now Collection goes to Women of the Vine; this year, Teneral Cellars is committing a minimum of $10,000 toward their scholarship fund for women who are seeking education in the wine industry. 

With every release, Teneral Cellars hopes to further elevate women and inspire change, and our own industry is no exception. We are creating more equitable opportunities and access for all, so our industry can begin to reflect the largest consumers of wine in this country: women.   

 

The Wines of the Collection 

The Disrupt Now Collection features three wines: an Albariño, Pinot Noir, and Cabernet Sauvignon.     

From Master Sommelier, Emily Wines, we present the tasting notes for the collection:

 

2018 Disrupt Now Cabernet Sauvignon, El Dorado

Power and structure define this Cabernet; blackberry and black currant flavors are contrasted by savory herbs and black pepper. Barrel aging lends a sweet baking spice note to the wine. This powerful wine has restrained, velvety tannins and a long finish.

 

 

2020 Pinot Noir, Russian River Valley, Sonoma

Pinot Noir is the most seductive and elegant of red grapes. Our Sonoma Pinot bursts with black cherry cola, raspberry jam, and tangy cranberry layered with cedar and woodsy notes. The soft tannins lead to a long, spice-laden finish.

 

2020 Albariño, El Dorado  

This Iberian grape is a rising star in California. Flashy notes of nectarine, Cara Cara oranges, and tangerine are matched with a cool minerality and creamy texture. Bright acidity makes this mouthwatering wine the ultimate aperitif wine!
