Some elegant, full-bodied Barberas can be aged up to 15 years. These higher end Barbera wines tend to be more expensive. Because Barbera has light tannins and naturally high acidity, Barbera was most commonly used in Northern Italy for everyday wines. Most Barbera wines and wine in general that sell for under $30 are typically meant to be consumed the year they are released.
