What is a good Vermentino?
Roberto Petacchi, proprietor at Giacomelli, located in the Colli di Lunni area in eastern Liguria, not far from the border with northern Tuscany, and just north of the Ligurian Sea, describes Vermentino as having a “delicate bouquet of white flowers, aromatic herbs and white peaches, but also with some mineral notes.” The best Vermentino is medium bodied and fresh, although many good Vermentino wines are light to medium bodied. Expect a floral aftertaste or a bitter finish like almonds in a good Vermentino.
